CITY OF FATHERS

Father Richard (75) and his son Richard (35) share an apartment in a small Czech city. Apart from their name, they seem to have little in common: the father, a retired literature teacher, loves high culture, while Richard works in a factory and prefers lowbrow entertainment. Yet despite their differences, they have a close relationship. Richard’s mother Renata abandoned the family when he was three and has struggled with alcoholism ever since. Richard secretly visits and supports her financially. He is also dating Lenka, a single mother, but avoids meeting her son.

When Renata suddenly dies, Richard jr. discovers that Richard is not his biological father. His real father may be a member of the forgotten pre-revolutionary punk band “Kokoti”, where Renata spent her youth. Determined to uncover the truth, Richard tracks down the band’s former frontman, Jan Pecl, armed with a DNA test kit. Pretending to research an article about underground punk bands, he gathers information about the remaining members and begins visiting each potential father one by one.
